Whenever potential, buy organic, cold-pressed carrier oils from a company you trust. Although mainly carrier oils don’t cause an allergic reaction, you should for all time do a patch test prior to using.
To execute a patch test:
- Add a little amount of carrier oil to the inside of your wrist or just below your ear.
- Coat the oil with a bandage.
- Test back on the area after 24 hours.
- If impatience occurs, rinse thoroughly, and keep away from future use.
If you’re allergic to tree nuts, you shouldn’t apply oils derived from tree nuts. This includes sugary almond oil, argan oil, and apricot kernel oil.
When diluting essential oils with carrier oil, it’s significant to follow this dilution plan.
For adults:
- 2.5% dilution: 15 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil
- 3% dilution: 20 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil
- 5% dilution: 30 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil
- 10% dilution: 60 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil
For children:
- 0.5 to 1 % dilution: 3 to 6 drops essential oil per 6 teaspoons carrier oil
Always keep carrier oils in a cool, dark place, if possible in the refrigerator. You should also store them in a dark glass pot.
